Project Description

Began in 2018, the Grand Prix project embodies the main themes explored by Montreal photographer Nicolas Ruel, namely, time and speed, technology and urbanism, art and architecture. Particularly fascinated by the mechanical choreography performed at the pit stop, where every thousandth of a second counts, Ruel approaches motor sport with the same rigor, seeking a fertile balance between technique, subject and material. This first body of works brings together the shots taken at the legendary circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal, the autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City and the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi; the premise of a major series that evolves one circuit to another, from one image to another.
