As part of a retrospective highlighting the 20th anniversary of the Maison Jean Paul Gaultier, Nicolas Ruel was given carte blanche by the famous designer to immortalize his collections. These double-exposure photographs bring together the building’s 19th century elegance with the haute couture of the fashion world’s enfant terrible, and celebrate a new avant-garde era in the mythical parisian atelier. Part of this photographic series is featured in the retrospective exhibition catalogue The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk 2011–2016, which held a record-breaking tour in the world’s greatest museums.
